Before we even begin discussing the current strain of Swine Flu (H1N1-09), let’s make one thing clear: we are not alarmists and do not subscribe to the alarmists tactics. Health, like our environment, are serious issues and should  not be hijacked by the vocal few hoping to capitalize on false fears.

Having said that, let’s dispel the exaggerations surrounding the 1918 influenza pande

mic. Many, including the United Nations, point to the 50-100 million dead from that tragedy as an example of what could  happen this time around.

But  research suggests that’s simply fear mongering at its best. According to epidemiologists at Emory University, the majority of deaths in  the 1918 pandemic were from secondary bacterial infections such as the strep,  pneumonia, and meningitis. Unfortunately for those involved, antibiotics and other antimicrobial  drugs were not available in 1918.

In the current situation surrounding H1N1-09 (Swine Flu) many believe the current strain may be weaker than the ordinary flu.

Now  that the groundwork has been laid, we’ll attempt to present facts surrounding  the current version of Swine Flu (yes, there have been various versions over the years)  in an easy to read and understand format.
