Mysterious Ozone

Mysterious Ozone

A constant barrage of negativism by the Lamestream Media (ABCNNBCBS) and certain fringe groups has created the perception Ozone and smog are one and the same. This is about as far from the truth as you can get. Ozone is a natural occurring event. Smog is formaldehyde, a product of engine exhaust and ultra violet light from the sun.

Ozone (O3) is a natural event formed through photosynthesis of vegetation and sea plankton. As this reaction occurs, molecular oxygen (O2) is released and floats upwards towards the stratosphere. Once there, an interaction with the sun’s ultraviolet radiation causes some molecular oxygen (O2) to lose one electron, creating two “Atomic” oxygen molecules (O1). But since Atomic molecules do not like to “hang out” by themselves, they seek a partner for a more stable relationship. This instability promotes the “Atomic” oxygen molecules (O1) to “hook up” with other free O1’s to reform as molecular oxygen (O2)  or latch onto a free O2 and create an ozone molecule, O3. These reactions occur over and over and create protective layer in the stratosphere to shield us from the deadly effects of the sun’s ultraviolet rays.

Ozone is also be created by waves crashing on the sea shore, during lightening storms, through reactions in the forest, and by mankind.

Ozone is an unstable, bluish gas with a very distinct scent. Low levels of Ozone freshen the air and contribute to the blue color of the skies. Moderate levels of Ozone are not harmful. However like anything else used to extremes, excesses can cause discomforts in the same manner as drinking too much water or inhaling too much smoke.

The EPA has determined the natural concentrations of Ozone in the United States is approximately .003 - .005 parts per million (PPM) at sea level. This, however, can vary by season as well as by latitude. The EPA also lists 50 parts per billion (PPB) as a safe upper limit for Ozone, a figure far above many popular air purifiers, including those reviewed by the Here’s Health Research Center (www.hereshealth.com).

Ozone’s oxidizing strength is only surpassed by fluoride. Ozone is the world’s most powerful water sanitizer, inactivating bacteria and viruses 3,000 times faster then chorine. But unlike chorine which has been blamed for hundreds of thousands of deaths around the world, there is no evidence of any human deaths from overexposure to Ozone.

Ozone is unsurpassed for control of many types of bacteria including E.Coli and fecal coli forms. It also excels in deactivating viruses, fungus, mold, mildew, and cysts. From a scientific standpoint, Ozone is the most effective natural bactericide and viricide of all disinfecting agents.

Many believe Ozone’s beneficial attributes have been downplayed in the United States by those interested in retaining the status quo of certain old line industries. However as the public becomes more aware of its benefits, the usage of products capitalizing on a controlled release of Ozone will continue to accelerate. The Here’s Health Research Center (www.hereshealth.com) has already begun focusing on selected ionic air purifiers incorporating user controlled Ozone release.
