Tips On Exercising During Work Hours
Just because your work may be sedentary in nature, doesn't mean you can't get in some much needed exercise!
Consider adding some or all of the following to your daily regime:
- If you drive to work, park a little further away from your final destination and walk the remainder. If you like to "jump start" your evening rush home, go out at noontime and move your car a little closer for that fast exit. This way, you'll double up on the exercise!
- If your commute involves public transportation, get off the bus a few blocks before your final destination and walk or jog the rest of the way.
- If you take the train, walk or jog from the station to your workplace.
- When you arrive at work, avoid the stairs and take the elevator.
- Use your lunch period for a quick stroll around the block or around town. You'll be amazed at some of the "new" things you'll see and find!
While at work:
- Hand deliver messages instead of using the phone or email (if practical and possible)
- Use your break periods to walk up and down several flights of stairs
- Resist the temptations in the cafeteria by bringing your own lunch and eating elsewhere
- Occasionally stretch while at your desk
- Join work related activities such as bowling leagues or athletic events
Note: All of the above should be adapted to your fitness level. If you have any questions, always consult your physician!
