Calculating Your Body Mass Index
Your Body Mass Index is a ratio developed to indicate how much of your weight is composed of fat. The accepted ratios are designated as follows:
- Under 25 - Normal
- 25 to 30 - Overweight
- 31 to 40 - Obese
- Greater Than 40 - Severely Obese
Obtaining your BMI can be as simple as clicking HERE and following the instructions, or if you like mathematics, perform the following calculations:
- Divide your weight in pounds by your height in inches
- Divide that result by your height in inches (yes, again)
- Multiply that result by 703
Many studies indicate a BMI over 25 increases your risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and many other life-threatening conditions.
