Body Mass Index

Calculating Your Body Mass Index

Your Body Mass Index is a ratio developed to indicate how much of your weight is composed of fat. The accepted ratios are designated as follows:

  • Under 25 - Normal
  • 25 to 30 - Overweight
  • 31 to 40 - Obese
  • Greater Than 40 - Severely Obese

Obtaining your BMI can be as simple as clicking HERE and following the instructions, or if you like mathematics, perform the following calculations:

  1. Divide your weight in pounds by your height in inches
  2. Divide that result by your height in inches (yes, again)
  3. Multiply that result by 703

Many studies indicate a BMI over 25 increases your risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, certain cancers and many other life-threatening conditions.
