Avoid Those Gains!

How To Avoid Those Pounds

  • Before sitting down for a meal, drink a full 8 ounces of water.

  • Restaurants of all types have been slowly increasing portion sizes in an effort to “one up” the competition. Your first line of defense is to recognize this fact and act accordingly. You don’t have to eat everything on your plate... in spite of what your Mother may have proclaimed, it won’t save any starving children. Pack up any excess in a People Bag and save it for tomorrows meal.

    • An interesting study conducted by researchers at Penn State University showed diners did not notice when portions sizes had been increased and most diners ate all they were served. "Large portions lead to increased calorie intake," says Dr. Barbara Rolls, the Penn State researcher. "Frequently, individuals were unaware that they were eating more, and did not feel any fuller after the meal."

  • Eat slowly. This gives your body time to turn off the hunger cue before you’ve overeaten.

  • Drink plenty of water with meals. Again, this will help your body realize it is being nourished before you've consumed more than you need.

  • Choose smaller portions when available - take lunch size over dinner size.

  • When ordering a dinner-size portion, plan on taking part of it home to eat at another meal.

  • When ordering dessert, share a portion with at least one other person.
